The Swans are slight favourites here, and it's easy to see why - they're in a purple patch on a 6-game winning run, they're nearly untouchable at the SCG with a 12-1 record there this season, and they're putting up 110.6 points a game. Fremantle's defence is genuinely stingy at 72.4 points conceded, but the Dockers are coming off a long road trip with a short turnaround, and the Swans have fresher legs. The real thing to watch is whether Fremantle's dominance on the scoreboard, sitting at 137% and climbing, can punch through when it counts - if they can get on top early and make the Swans' potent attack work harder, they've got a winning formula in their back pocket.
The talk is nearly all Dockers, we are on Swans. We are not moving off the home form and fresher legs, even with the room leaning the other way.
The room is mostly buying the travelling Dockers as the bigger, meaner side underneath the ladder gloss, and if their midfield really does bully the clearances like last time, they are right and we are wrong.
Public Opinion Key Callouts
Plenty of the discussion still treats Sydney as too short-handed to match it with a full-strength Dockers side across four quarters, even after the Brisbane thrashing.
We already had one eye on the short-handed angle, it is exactly why this is a coinflip and not a confident lean.
The other camp keeps pointing out Sydney have now won six straight, including a famous demolition of Brisbane without their suspended players, and argue that form trumps the injury sob story.
The room is seeing what we are seeing here, six on the bounce and a statement win over Brisbane is real form, not noise.
A lot of the tactical chat centres on whether Fremantle's bigger, deeper midfield led by their in-form ruckman can dominate clearances the way they did in the past meeting and the semi-final.
If Fremantle's big man truly takes over stoppages like he has before against this exact opponent, that is the one thing that flips our call and we cannot rule it out from here.
There's a recurring thread that the huge Round 18 last-quarter collapse against these same Dockers is still hanging over the Swans and will be the mental hurdle for them to clear.
We read that last-quarter capitulation as fuel for a home side desperate to square the ledger, not a psychological hurdle they are still carrying.
Bars show how far each factor swings the projected margin. Built from ELO ratings, season scoring rates, recent form, the home deck, interstate travel and rest - never from betting markets.
