This is genuinely a coin flip, but I'm leaning Packers. Both sides limped into the off-season after losing their last five games, and both love playing tight contests - the Jets had 8 one-score games last year, the Packers 11. The Jets have home field and a marginally tighter defence, but Green Bay's the better-rated outfit and crucially, they take care of the football with only 0.7 giveaways a game. In a rainy MetLife slog where field position matters and possessions are hard to come by, ball security could be the difference. Watch whether the Jets can finally string together a competent offensive performance - they managed only 17.6 points a game last season, and if they're below par again, rainy conditions will suffocate any comeback hopes.
The talk is nearly all Jets, we are on Packers by a nose. We are not moving off the trenches and the turnover discipline that got us here.
The room is leaning hard on the Jets front seven bullying Love and the home crowd carrying the Jets over the line, both of which are fair reads and both of which we already had baked into how tight this call is.
Public Opinion Key Callouts
Packers fans and previewers keep zeroing in on the offensive line getting overwhelmed, worried the Jets front will do to Love what Minnesota just did.
We already have the Jets front and their tighter defence in our numbers, it is exactly why this is a coinflip and not a confident Packers pick.
There is a real split on whether the Jets are actually good or just flattered a poor Titans side, so plenty are not ready to trust the 1-0 start.
Whether the Jets are genuinely good or just beat up a bad Titans side is something we cannot know yet, and if they are the real deal our call is in trouble.
Talk keeps returning to Green Bay's habit of blowing leads late, and if it happens again the heat on LaFleur will only grow.
LaFleur's late-game habits are not something we can see coming from here, but another blown lead would flip this result and the noise around him.
There is a strong feeling that the home opener atmosphere and the Jets finally getting to open at home 1-0 will genuinely lift the team on the day.
The home opener lift for the Jets is already folded into the home edge we gave them, it just is not enough on its own to swing our call.
Bars show how far each factor swings the projected margin. Built from ELO ratings, expected points added per play on both sides of the ball, recent form, home field, rest days and the injury report - never from betting markets.

How each side is actually playing. A season figure marked with a year is last year's, until that side has three games on the board this one. The last 5 and last game always run back from its most recent outing, whichever season that fell in.

Full-game team stats from nflverse after each week. Blue marks the stronger side in each column - fewer giveaways, sacks allowed, penalty yards and points allowed count as better, and a lower defensive EPA per play means the defence gave less away.
